"Terry Narine has created a novel methodology using publicly available health and climate data to begin to understand the effects of climate change on mortality and morbidity and consequently implications for insurers. This was presented at an IAIS steering group call on health and more recently to the Geneva Association, who also have recently published on the topic specifically looking at the implications of climate change on health and life insurability.
While the model developed by Terry uses several assumptions, as more awareness and data becomes available, there remains a high potential to finesse this further and start to look at the various scenarios for health and life insurers. It is certainly a welcome start in understanding something that has traditionally been overlooked in the context of climate change

"The Healthcare Climate Change model developed and demonstrated by Terry Narine and presented to the Healthcare Community of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries in June of 2024 was the first comprehensive modeling of various factors known to influence health care costs. The tool provides a perfect platform for the discussions among risk managers about the long-term implications of climate change on our health care systems and how actuaries need to consider these factors in developing the solutions that protect our society."
